Willie received the gift of life on 2/28/00. Because of the shortage of suitable donor kidneys, Willie received two kidneys from a single donor which might not have not have been useable alone. University Hospital of Brooklyn was the first in New York City to perform this groundbreaking procedure and continues to use this specialized procedure to offer the gift of life to many who might not otherwise receive a kidney.
