Stephen R. Marrone, EdD, RN-BC, CCRN, CNOR, Director, Nursing Education and Research was an invited speaker on the topic of "New Graduate Residency Program Using Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice" that was presented at the Annual Nursing Education Institute in June 2007 in Miami, Florida sponsored by Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Related Professions.

has been elected to the Board of the Metro New York Association of Diabetic Educators

Ms. Maria Yomtov RN , MSN, CDE, Director, Center for Community Health Promotion & Wellness
was a guest speaker on "Cardiovascular Disease in our community" for community health workers. The event was coordinated by the Greater Southern Brooklyn Health Coalition, Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President

Ms. Matilda Dyer RN, Assistant Director of Nursing, Ambulatory Surgery
was featured in the July 23rd issue of Advance for Nurses on her philosophy of cultural diversity and its impact on the nurse working at Downstate Medical Center.

Ms. Linda S. Cohen RN, MSN, MPH, CDE has been appointed as the 2007-2008, board member of the Metropolitan New York Association of Diabetes Educators.

Stephen R. Marrone, EdD, RN, BC, CCRN, CNOR, Director of Nursing Education, Practice, and Research was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Transcultural Nursing Society and a member of the Transcultural Nursing Certification Commission.


Each month the hospital chooses two employees who have exceeded the standard for service excellence. We are proud to celebrate the selection of seven nurses from our department!

Lorraine Blake-Reid RNC, MA, CCE, Associate Director of Nursing-Informatics
, presented “Use of Computerized Forms in the Philips Medical Systems Obstetrical Information Management System” at their OB Trace Vue User Group Conference, June 21, 2006, in Baltimore, Maryland

Mr. Ray Cupid, Assistant Director of Nursing for the Emergency Department has been selected as a recipient of the Greater New York Hospital Association Nursing Leadership Scholarship. Mr. Cupid will attend a fifteen month program which includes nursing leaders in the tri state area. The purpose of the program is to foster strategies on how health care organizations can develop and implement programs in cultural diversity.

Ms. Anny Yeung, Assistant Vice President of Perioperative and Support Services has been recognized as one of the top Nursing leaders in perioperative nursing. Ms. Yeung is the recipient of the Georgetown University Nursing Leadership scholarship. She will attend a week long seminar in July which focuses on management trends and solutions in health care.

Janis McPherson Miller RN, MSN, Director of Nursing-Surgery/Neuroscience & Rehabilitation was chosen as an Editor's choice in the 2005 Outstanding Nurse Leader contest by Advance for Nurses' Magazine.

Cynthia Margalit RN, MSA, Director of Nursing-Psychiatry won first prize for her poster presentation, entitled “Use of Medication Protocol for De-escalation of Acute Agitation Episodes,” at the American Psychiatric Nursing Association convention in November 2005.
