MD/MPH PROGRAM
The Master of Public Health Program, located within the College of Medicine, is pleased to offer a concurrent degree program for medical students the MD/MPH Program. This concurrent degree program offers the opportunity for students enrolled in the College of Medicines medical degree program to simultaneously obtain a masters degree in public health. A number of such programs exist across the country; they provide students with a remarkable opportunity to enhance their medical education with the important public health degree and perspective.
Students in this concurrent degree program take the usual four years to complete medical school and three summer semesters to complete the MPH degree. As noted, the programs run concurrently so that the individual graduates at the end of four years with both an MD and an MPH degree. Forty two (42) credits plus a culminating experience are required to complete the MPH degree. The following illustrates how the concurrent programs interact.

Quotes from MD/MPH Students:
The MPH courses help keep you in touch with all of the reasons why you wanted to go to medical school in the first place.
Rebecca Mercier, Call of '07
My public health background has helped prepare me for a career in emergency medicine. I've developed leadership, interpersonal, and decision-making skills that will be valuable in my future career.
Kaedrea Jackson, Class of '06
Pursuing a joint degree is one of the best decisions that I have made-it's fascinating, exciting, and highly respected within the medical community.
Karen Ast, Class '07
The MPH Program complements the medical school curriculum by filling some of the gaps that you will need as a practicing physician in the 21st century. The dual program is very doable.

CONCURRENT MASTER OF SCIENCE IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
The Master of Public Health Program is pleased to join with the SUNY Downstate Medical Center Occupational Therapy Program to offer students the opportunity to earn two degrees- an MS in Occupational Therapy and MPH in a concurrent program over 3.5 years.
Occupational therapists are professionals who specialize in the promotion of meaningful activity engagement as a conduit to health and quality of life. Traditionally employed in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, private practices, nursing homes, and schools, occupational therapists assist individuals with illness or disability to resume participation in valued activities. More recently, occupational therapists have demonstrated critical roles in fostering health through activity adaptation in community agencies, work-related ergonomics programs, and NIH-funded intervention trials.
For administrative purposes, students are considered part-time in both the Occupational Therapy Program and the Public Health Program. Students are required to apply separately and be accepted into each program. Tuition is $288.00 per credit for full-time (12 credits per semester) in-state residents and $438.00 for full-time out-of-state residents. Market trends indicate that opportunities for professionals with credentials in both occupational therapy and public health are significant. Feel free to call the Occupational Therapy Program (718-270-7730) or the Master of Public Health program (718-270-1065) if you have any questions about this exciting option.
