Overall responsibility for the Accreditation lies with a Steering Committee reporting to the President of Downstate Medical Center
This committee developed a Self-Study model, defined the Committees necessary, established a time-line, determined Institutional resources required for the process, and created charges for the Committees to be established. View Self-Study Design
The Steering committee will co-ordinate and approve data collection, monitor interim reports from Committees and prepare the Final Report
An Executive Bridge Committee will provide support to the Steering Committee facilitating provision of data needed by the various Committees
The Accreditation process is based on a Self-Study by members of the 4 constituent components of Downstate Medical Center (College of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, College of Nursing, College of Helath Related Professions). The work will be performed by 7 Self-Study Committees responsible to the Steering Committee. View the Committees
The Charges to the Committees reflect the 'Standards of Excellence' propounded by Middle States as a guide to the self-evaluation process
Participation of all members of the Downstate community is strongly encouragedand will be facilitated through a Coordinating Office whose responsibility is to share information about the process with faculty, students and staff. This committee will also schedule Town-Meetings covering each Topic area
A draft self-study report will be completed by November 2005
Between this time and January 2006 the commuity will be given an opportunity to comment and provide feedback
In January the Final Report will be forwarded to a Site-Visit team selected by the Middle States Commissioners
The Site-Visit team will conduct an on-site visit in March 2006 and provide their report to the Middle States Commission recommending reaccreditation or some other action. A copy is provided to the Institution which responds to the report
Action by the Middle States Commission is expected in June 2006. The action can be:
—Affirmation of Accrediation
—Affirmation of Accrediation with a required follow-up report
—Warning of revocation of Accreditation
