CHARGE
Committee 5 will consider evolving faculty roles and responsibilities and the linkages among scholarship, teaching, student learning, research and service in the ever changing and highly technological academic environment. The following charge questions will be considered.

	In what ways are Downstate Medical Center faculty qualified for the positions they hold in College of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, College of Nursing and College of Health Related Professions?
	How is the number of faculty needed at each level in each discipline of each college determined?
	In what ways does the faculty demonstrate excellence in teaching and other activities and demonstrate continued professional growth?
	In what ways does the Downstate Medical Center provide guidance as to the procedures and criteria for appointment, promotion and tenure in each of the four colleges?
	How are part-time, adjunct faculty reviewed?
	How are faculty and professional staff informed of the personnel policies and procedures?
	Describe the review process for faculty and other professionals including decision-making, appropriateness and procedures for checks and balances?
	Describe the procedure for discipline and grievance?
	How are educational curricular designed, maintained evaluated and revised as appropriate by faculty and other qualified professionals?
	How does the institution support faculty development in College of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, College of Nursing and College of Health Related Professions given that faculty members have different developmental needs, and are in different phases of their careers?
	How does Downstate Medical Center support and develop the linkages among scholarship, teaching, student learning, research and service?
	How does Downstate Medical Center demonstrate its respect for academic freedom?
