Dr Sharma directs the administrative and educational aspects and goals of the Section of Hospital Medicine. He is now pursuing a part time Masters in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research program at Cornell University Medical Center, and recently received a grant from Biosite Inc to study the inpatient management of CHF. His interests include inpatient management of Congestive Heart Failure, translation of clinical trial results to practice, medical student and resident education and evaluation and improving and enhancing clinical documentation.

Mafuzur Rahman MD

Dr Rahman directs the administrative and financial aspects of the hospitalists activities, he has an interest in billing and coding fundamentals of hospitalist practice.

Eduard Porosnicu MD
Director of the Palliative Care Consult Service
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr Porosnicu founded the inpatient palliative care consult service and is one of the founders of the hospitalist group at Downstate .He coordinates the day to day activities of this extremely valuable aspect of the hospitalist service. He is available for consultations for hospice care and non hospice palliative care as well, he has a deep and abiding interest in bringing palliative care and end of life care to medical students and trainees.

Edward Carbonell MD

Dr Carbonell has been with the hospitalist group since its inception and serves on the inpatient palliative care consult service as well as furthering the educational goals of the palliative care service.

Sandeep Kochar MD
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr Kochar is one of the newest members of the hospitalist service and is board eligible in infectious diseases, having just finished an infectious diseases fellowship at Downstate. He also is in the final stages of finshing his Masters in Public Health at Yale .He is interested in international health, mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and HIV medicine as well as resident and medical student education.

Pallav Parakh MD, MHS(Health Finance and Management)

Dr Parakh finished his chief residency at Kings County Hospital Center and is one of the newest members of the group. He has interests in patient Safety and the clinical and epidemiologic features of Clostridium difficile infection

Dr Latif is one of the newest members of the group and finished her chief residency at Downstate. She is interested in the discharge process and studying the the variables that affect it,inpatient management of Congestive heart failure and medical student education and evaluation.
