Faculty Training Program in Urban Geriatrics
SUNY Downstate Health Science Center at Brooklyn offers fellowships in Geriatric Medicine, Psychiatry, and Dentistry. The fellowships are supported by a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). This program will provide fellows with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet the needs of diverse elderly populations and succeed in positions in academic medicine. Clinical training will take place at 24 different settings in the ethnically diverse borough of Brooklyn. Training in research will include mentoring and courses in the Downstate Masters of Public Health Program. Fellows will be prepared to participate in teaching of medical students and residents. Administrative experience and knowledge will be fostered throughout and specifically enhanced by a one-month experience at a long-term care facility. Fellows can complete the Masters of Public Health Degree in Urban Health at Downstate with support from grant funds, and they will be prepared to complete the CAQ in their respective specialty areas, and a CAQ in Palliative Care if desired.
The duration of the fellowships is two years, commencing on July 1. Interested applicants should contact the Project Director, Dr. Carl I. Cohen, at the address listed below.
