To all incoming residents:

On behalf of the faculty and administration of the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, I am pleased to welcome you to our medical center. The residency that you are about to enter will surely be one of the most challenging and, I hope rewarding experiences of your life.

Our Graduate Medical Education Program offers educational programs in all disciplines.  The GME Committee coordinates our overall residency education effort and works closely with department chairs and program directors to make sure that our educational program are conducted in full compliance with the guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the academic standards of excellence of the State University of New York. The GME Office and GME Committee also provide assistance and support to residents in whatever way may be needed- from help with relocation issues to connecting residents to formal and informal counseling services.

I would like to stress that from your first day of arrival you become part of our educational community. You are an important part of that community, for the reputation of an academic medical center rests, in part, on the excellence of its residents. I appreciate your dedication and your decision to train at SUNY Downstate and its affiliated hospitals.  Please be assured of my fullest support as you pursue the challenging goals of your professional career.
