Residency Program There are numerous opportunities for resident participation in basic and clinical research, and include the following ongoing basic-science research: -in vitro assays to study the effects of various compounds on leukocyte cell functions as chemotaxis and leukocyte-endothelial cell adhesion; -comparative studies of nitric oxide production by murine macrophage/human monocyte (THP-1) and human dermal microvascular endothelial cell lines; -tests of various compounds for their ability to inhibit LPS-induced and/or cytokine-induced NO production; -quantitative assessment of PMN chemotactic responses measured by CytoFluor, and the comparative influence of phosphodiesterase inhibitors on PMN from blood samples from healthy and atopic patients; -phase I, II, and III clinical trials to compare the safety and efficacy of various acne treatments; -examination of the safety and efficacy of topical wound-healing peptides, including in vitro and in vivo assays. |
