Kings County Medical Center

Kings County Hospital Center is the largest municipal hospital in New York City and is loated directly across the street from SUNY-HSCB and UHB.  With 1204 beds, it is one of the largest general acute care hospitals in the country.  The campus is situated on 43 acres and contains 23 buildings.  As a tertiary care facility it has an active emergency service with 230,991 E.R. visits and 596,539 outpatient visits during 1988-89.  The hospital is a designated Trauma Center, with eight Intensive Care Units, a large Renal Dialysis Unit, a modern Burn Unit, and a recently-opened Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.  The hospital is currently in the midst of a 10-year rebuilding program which will essentially create a new physical plant.  The Department of Otolaryngology is extremely busy at KCHC and runs an active out-patient facility, in-patient consultation service and surgical schedule.  Four residents cover KCHC and UHB as a combined service, with the assistance of one general surgery resident.  The Department of Otolaryngology has scheduled Operating Room activities 5 days a week.

A recent affiliation agreement between KCHC and SUNY-HSCB promises to enhance the clinical, as well as, the academic activities of both institutions.
