Clinical Research

The faculty of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders Center at UHB is involved in a variety of clinical research activities including:

1. Clinical trials of investigational new drugs to delay or prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease and to treat memory impairment associated with Alzheimer’s disease

2. Clinical studies to determine which factors predict development of dementia after strokes

3. Clinical studies of the relationship between bad balance and cognitive decline

4. Neuroendocrinology
• Studies of the effects of hormones such as estrogen on thinking
and mood.

Integrative basic Science-Clinical Research

1. Electrophysiologic studies of the effects of aging and brain lesions on the timing of information processing

2. Clinicopathological studies to:
• Understand the pathological substrate for "normal" cognitive changes associated with aging
• Understand the interaction between vascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease
• Better characterize non-Alzheimer dementias and thereby improve sensitivity and specificity of clinical diagnosis
