WHAT IS MEDICAL INFOMATICS



Medical Informatics is a discipline that advances the use of information technology to improve healthcare.

In 1990, Blois and Shortliffe definition of the discipline as “Medical informatics is the rapidly developing scientific field that deals with the storage, retrieval, and optimal use of biomedical information, data, and knowledge for problem solving and decision making. Medical informatics is the study of how health data is collected; stored and communicated; how data is used for administration and clinical decision making, and how computers and telecommunication technology can be applied to support those processes.
