FACULTY

Dr. James E. Cottrell is Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology. He received his M.D. degree from West Virginia University in 1968. He interned at Allegheny General Hospital, completed his anesthesiology residency training in 1971 and did a one-year fellowship in respiratory research at Mercy Hospital, PA. Dr. Cottrell’s subspecialty is Neuroanesthesia. He is board certified and recertified in Anesthesiology


Dr. Audree A. Bendo, Professor of Anesthesiology, Residency Program Director, Director of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology and Vice Chair for Education. She received her M.D. degree from Chicago Medical School in 1981. She completed her residency training in 1984 and a fellowship in 1985, at SUNY Downstate. Dr. Bendo’s subspecialty is Neurosurgical Anesthesiology. She is board certified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. Rebecca Twersky, Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chair for Research at SUNY and Medical Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Unit at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from SUNY in 1983 and completed her residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1986. Dr. Twersky’s subspecialty is Ambulatory Anesthesiology. She is board certified and recertified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. David J. Wlody, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chairman at SUNY, Interim Chair at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1982 and completed his residency training at St. Louis University Hospital in 1986. Before coming to SUNY, Dr. Wlody practiced at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Wlody’s subspecialty is Obstetric Anesthesiology. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. Lance Wagner, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Chair of Anesthesiology at Lutheran Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree from SUNY in 1988 and completed his residency training in 1992. Dr. Wagner’s subspecialty is General Anesthesiology. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. Banu Lokhandwala, Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Director of Anesthesiology at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.B.B.S. degree from B. J. Government Medical College in India in 1971 and completed her residency training at New York University Hospital in 1979. Dr. Lohandwala’s subspecialty is Obstetric Anesthesiology. She is board certified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. Marilyn Resurreccion, Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Anesthesiology at SUNY. She received her M.D. degree from the University of the Philippines in 1963 and completed her residency training at SUNY Downstate in 1968. Dr. Resurreccion’s subspecialty is Pediatric Anesthesiology. She is board certified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. Michael Mendeszoon Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Chief of Anesthesiology at Kings County Hospital Center. He received his M.D. degree from SUNY in 1986 and completed his residency training in 1990. Dr. Mendeszoon’s subspecialty is Neurosurgical Anesthesiology. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.


Dr. Jean Charchaflieh, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY, Director of Critical Care, Co-Director Medical and Cardiothoracic ICU, and Director of Respiratory Therapy at University Hospital of Brooklyn. He is the Program Director of the Critical Care Section of the Anesthesiology Program. He received his M.D. degree from Aleppo University Medical School in Aleppo, Syria in 1983. He completed his residency training at Loyola University Medical Center in 1992. He completed a Critical Care Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1994. He completed a Neurosurgical Anesthesia Fellowship at SUNY in 1995. He is board certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.


Dr. Constance Hill, Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Director Medical Student Education Program and Dean of Minority Affiars at SUNY. She received her M.D. degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C. and completed her residency training at Presbyterian Hospital in NY, 1970. Dr. Hill’s subspecialty is Pediatric Anesthesiology.



Downstate Medical Center

Dr. Alexandru Apostol, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Clinical Director of Anesthesiology at SUNY. He received his M.D. from the University of Medicine, Bucharest - Romania, 1981 and completed his residency training at SUNY, 2000. Dr. Apostol is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Dennis Dimaculangan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Philippines, Manila, 1993. He completed his residency at SUNY, 2001 and a fellowship in Neuroanesthesiology. Dr. Dimaculangan is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Alexander W. Gotta, Professor Emeritus of' Clinical Anesthesiology at SUNY. He received his M.D. degree from NYU School of Medicine, 1960 and completed his residency training at NY Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, 1964. Before coming to SUNY he practiced at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. John Hartung, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY. He received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, 1973, and received his Ph.D. from Harvard University, 1981. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Neuroanesthesiology.

Dr. Ira Kass, Professor of Anesthesiology and Section Head of the Neurosurgical Laboratory at SUNY. He received a B.A. at SUNY Buffalo,1973, an M.S. at the University of Wisconsin,1975, a Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin,1980 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Physiology at the University of Wisconsin, 1983. Dr. Kass also has an appointment in Pharmacology and Physiology, SUNY.

Dr. Andre Radianu, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY. He received his M.D. degree from C. Davilla University of Medicine and Pharmacy-Romania, 1989. He completed his anesthesia training at SUNY, 1998.

Dr. Ketan Shevde, Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Cardio Thoracic Anesthesia at SUNY. He received his M.D. degree at the Makerere Medical School – Uganda, 1963. He completed his residency training at Mount Sinai Hospital, NY, 1973 and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, 1974. Before coming to SUNY, Dr. Shevde was the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn from 1988-2005. His subspecialty is Cardio Thoracic Anesthesiology. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Marina Svyatets, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Voroshilovgrad City Medical School, Ukraine, 1989. She completed her anesthesia training at St. Luke-Presbyterian Medical Center and did a one year Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship, 2001. Dr. Svyatets is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Olga Tyuleneva, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center. She received her M. D. degree at Leningrad Institute of Medicine - Russia, 1986 and completed her residency training at Brookdale University Hospital, Brooklyn, 2003.

Dr. Ivan Velickovic, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Obstetrical Anesthesia at Downstate. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Nis Servia, Yugoslavia, in October 1984. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2001 and a fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA in 2002. Dr. Velickovic is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Samrat Worah, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from Pravara Rural Medical College, University of Pune, India in 1996. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2003 and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine and Ambulatory Anesthesia at Downstate Medical Center in 2005. Dr. Worah is board certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Ming Zhang, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Anesthesiology at SUNY. He received a M.D. from West China University of Medical Sciences, 1991, and a Ph.D. from University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, 1998 (mentor: Dr. Elizabeth Raveche). He subsequently did a postdoctoral fellowship in immunology in Dr. Michael Carroll’s lab at Harvard Medical School, followed by working as a scientist in Natural Antibodies, Inc (biotech start-up by Drs. Carroll and Francis Moore) and as a research associate at Harvard Medical School.



LONG ISLAND COLLEGE HOSPITAL

Dr. Waseem Ashraf, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY, and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree from Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan, 1994. He completed his anesthesiology training in at SUNY, 2002 and a fellowship in Ambulatory Surgery, Toronto Western Hospital, 2003. Dr. Ashraf is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Chung Shin Chee, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from the National Taiwan University College of Medicine, Taipei - Taiwan, 1966 and completed his residency training at Westchester Medical Center, 1972. Dr. Chee is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Alan Coopersmith, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center, May 2003. He received his M.D. degree at Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico, 1992. Dr. Coopersmith completed his residency training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, 1999 and then completed a regional anesthesia fellowship, 2003.

Dr. David Fishman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, SUNY and Clinical Director of Anesthesiology at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from SUNY, 1994. He completed his residency training at SUNY, 1999. Dr. Fishman’s subspecialty is Pediatric Anesthesia. Dr. Fishman is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Marina Fishman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Medical and Pharmaceutical Institute in Romania, 1989. She completed her residency training at SUNY, 2003.

Dr. Elie Fried, Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. Degree from SUNY. 1988 and completed his residency training, 1992. Dr. Fried’s subspecialty is Ambulatory Surgery. Dr. Fried is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Craig Lazar, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from Autonomous University, Guadalajara, Mexico and completed his residency training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, 1992. Dr. Lazar’s subspecialty is Ambulatory Anesthesia and Office Based Anesthesia. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Helen Lauro, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Director Pediatric Pre-Anesthesiology Evaluation Program at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from SUNY, 1993 and completed her anesthesiology training at SUNY, 2000 and a one year fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology, 2001. Her subspecialty is Ambulatory Surgery. She is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Kate Macjieka, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from School Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Scineces in Poland, 1997. She completed her anesthesiology training SUNY, 2003 and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesiology, 2004.

Dr. Gina Matei, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Bucharest Institute of Medicine & Pharmacy, 1989. She completed her Anesthesiology training at SUNY, 2000 and completed a Neurosurgical Anesthesia Fellowship, 2001. She is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Khosrow Mojdehi, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology. He received his M.D. degree from Tehran University Medical School, 1967 and completed his residency training at SUNY, 1990. Dr. Mojdehi's subspecialty is Pediatric Anesthesia. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Nabendu Pandey, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.B.B.S. degree from R.G. Kar Medical College/University of Calcutta, India, 1963 and completed his residency training at University of Utah, 1971. Dr. Pandey's sub-specialty is General Anesthesia.

Dr. Aleksandr Rozenberg, Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from Ross University School of Medicine, 2000. He completed his residency training in Anesthesiology at SUNY, 2004.

Dr. Gloria B. Valdez, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Far Eastern University, Philippines, 1965 and completed her residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center, 1974. Dr. Valdez's subspecialty is General Anesthesia.

Dr. Lela Weems, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY and Attending Anesthesiology at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, 1997. She completed her anesthesia training at Harvard Medical School, 2001.

Dr. Betka Zeleny, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Charles University, Prague, Czechoslovakia, 1965 and completed her residency training at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, New Jersey, 1977. Dr. Zeleny's subspecialty is General Anesthesia.

Dr. Rumin Zhang, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, and attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from Tongji Medical University in China in 1985. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training at Downstate in 2004.

Dr. Lijin Liang, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY, and attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. She received her M.D. degree from Beijing Medical University, Beijing, China in 1990. She completed her Anesthesiology residency training at Downstate in 2005.

Dr. Young Ju Kwon, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY, and attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, in New York in 1988. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 1997 and a fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology in 1999 at St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York.

Dr. Jun Lin, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY, and attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from Inner Mongolia Medical School in China in 1985. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2002 at Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Lin is board certified in Anesthesiology.
Dr. Allen Williams, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at SUNY, and attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island College Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from The Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine in Betsheda, MD in 1991. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2002 at Downstate Medical Center.



KINGS COUNTY HOSPITAL CENTER

Dr. Georgette Alexis, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at KCHC, and attending Anesthesiologist at Downstate Medical Center. She received her M.D. degree in 1988 from the University d’Etat d’Haiti. She completed her Anesthesiology residency training in 2002, and a Pain Management Medicine Fellowship at Downstate Medical Center in 2003. Dr. Alexis is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management Medicine.

Dr. Azad Amin, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree from Dhaka Medical College in Bangladesh in 1984. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 1998, and a Fellowship in Cardio Thoracic Anesthesia at Downstate Medical Center in 1999.

Dr. Pamela Bowen, Clincial Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. She received her M.D. degree from Downstate Medical Center in 1994. She completed her Anesthesiology residency training at Downstate Medical Center in 1998.

Dr. Omotola Dawodu, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. She received her M.D. degree in 1993 from the University of Ibadan College of Medicine in Nigeria. She completed her Anesthesiology residency training at Downstate Medical Center in 2002. Dr. Dawodu is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Adwoa Essuman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. She received her M.D. degree in 1990 from the University of Ghana Medical School, in Ghana. She completed her Anesthesiology residency training in 1999 and a Pain Management Fellowship in 2000 at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Essuman is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Shantha Ganesan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. She received her M.D. degree in 1985 from the University of Colombo, Faculty of Medicine. She completed her Anesthesiology residency training in 1999 and a Pain Management Fellowship in 2000 at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Ganesan is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Peter Lipps, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree in 1994 from Ruhr University of Bochum, Germany. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2003 from Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Lipps is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Wasil Sabzposh, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree in 1999 from UMDNJ – RWJ Medical School in New Jersey. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2001 and a Critical Care Fellowship in 2002 at Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Sabzposh also completed a Pain Management Fellowship in 2003 at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. He is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Wilfredo Santos, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree in 1988 from the University of the East-Romon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2002 and a Critical Care Fellowship in 2003 at Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Santos is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Samuel Jean-Baptiste, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. He received his M.D. degree in 1988 from the State University of Medicine, Port-au-Prince Haiti. He completed his Anesthesiology residency training in 2004 and a Critical Care Fellowship in 2005 at Downstate Medical Center, in Brooklyn. Dr. Jean-Baptiste is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Dr. Haresh Sharma, Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Downstate Medical Center, and attending Anesthesiologist at Kings County Medical Center. He received hi M.D. degree in 1975 from the Municipal Medical College in Gujarat State, India. He completed his Anesthesiology residency in 1999 at Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Sharma is board certified in Anesthesiology.
